Competitive sport is not an option at Cottons — every boy plays, every season, because the discipline of the game has always been treated as inseparable from the discipline of the mind.
The School fields teams across cricket, football, hockey, athletics and aquatics, supported by an infrastructure built up over generations: three playing fields, tennis and basketball courts, a heated swimming pool, badminton, table tennis, billiards and squash courts, and a modern gymnasium standing alongside its heritage predecessor. At the centre of the cricketing calendar sits the Cottonian Shield, a storied inter-school competition contested continuously for generations and regarded as one of the oldest school cricket tournaments in the country — its finals played, fittingly, on the very ground where the whole School gathers for assembly.

Sports Complex
The Sports Complex brings the heated swimming pool together with badminton, table tennis, billiards and squash courts under one roof — a modern facility at the heart of Cottonian sport.
First Eleven Field
The iconic First Eleven Field hosts the general assembly every Monday and Friday, and is the venue for the Cottonian Shield cricket finals each year — the same turf that has carried the School’s cricketing tradition for generations.
Football & Hockey
Beyond the First Eleven Field, the Second and Fourth Eleven Fields give footballers and hockey players grounds of their own — three fields in all, in constant use through every season.
Tennis & Basketball Courts
Courts spread across the campus’s three fields give tennis and basketball players their own space to train and compete, rounding out the sporting infrastructure.
Heated Swimming Pool
Part of the Sports Complex, the heated pool gives every Cottonian the chance to learn and compete in the water through the year, supporting both learn-to-swim classes and inter-house galas.
Gymnasium
The new Gymnasium stands beside the Old Gym — a heritage building and a testimony to the foresight of the School’s founding fathers — giving Cottonians a modern space for fitness and conditioning.
